BMW has officially opened the order books for the all-new BMW i3 — the second production model based on the Neue Klasse architecture and the first fully electric sedan to carry the spirit of the iconic 3 Series into the future.

Although the market launch is scheduled for autumn 2026, strong customer demand has prompted BMW to start accepting orders earlier than planned. Customers can now reserve the launch-spec BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition, priced from €75,340 in Germany. A standard i3 50 xDrive will follow later, starting at €65,900.

Built on BMW's dedicated Neue Klasse platform with an 800-volt electrical system, the new i3 introduces sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain delivers 469 hp (345 kW) and 645 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 4.7 seconds.

One of the key highlights is the ability to charge at up to 400 kW. At compatible DC fast chargers, the battery can regain enough energy for 423 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. BMW claims a maximum WLTP range of up to 912 kilometers (with base wheels); however, versions fitted with larger wheels and wider tires see that figure adjust to 758 kilometers — still an outstanding result.

Inside, the sedan features the new BMW Panoramic iDrive, Operating System X, and the Heart of Joy control unit, which centrally coordinates powertrain, braking, steering and chassis systems for enhanced driving dynamics.

Production of the i3 will begin in August 2026 at BMW's Munich plant, with customer deliveries starting in autumn. A Touring version (i3 Touring) is expected to follow in 2027. Additionally, more affordable variants with lower output and likely smaller batteries will join the lineup later.

The new BMW i3 is not just a model launch — it's a technology showcase for the Neue Klasse generation and a preview of what's to come across BMW's entire future portfolio.
