Plug & Charge with Credit Card: BMW Makes Public Charging Truly Effortless

BMW is making life easier for electric vehicle owners once again. Starting April 2026 in Germany (with more countries to follow), you can now simply link your regular credit card in the car system and charge at public stations without apps, contracts, or cards.

How It Works?

Just set it up once in the Plug & Charge menu in the MyBMW App or the new iDrive X system by linking the credit card already saved in your BMW account. After that:

  • Drive up to a compatible charger
  • Plug in the cable
  • The car authenticates automatically
  • Charging starts immediately

The price per kWh (standard ad-hoc rate) is clearly shown in the vehicle and in the MyBMW App.

At launch, BMW is partnering with Mer Deutschland, giving access to over 1,400 charging points in Germany. More networks will be added throughout 2026, with expansion to other European countries planned later this year. This is especially handy for road trips abroad — no need to sign up with every local provider or struggle with foreign apps.

The feature is available for all current electric BMW and MINI models.

Benefits for Owners

  • No separate charging contracts required
  • No extra apps or RFID cards
  • Full cost transparency
  • Works at DC fast chargers

BMW and MINI have essentially turned your car into a “credit card on wheels.” Charging is now almost as simple as filling up with gasoline.
